About The Position

As a leader in our industry, we have over 22 GW of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects in development and 33 projects in operation or construction across North America. The Senior Pre-Construction Associate will play a critical role in the development and execution of Aypa’s portfolio of stand-alone battery storage and hybrid projects. This role will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to successfully plan, design, and prepare projects during the pre-construction phase. This role will focus on projects located in the CAISO and WECC regions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, project or construction management, environmental science, or a related field
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a project manager or project engineer in the renewable energy sector
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng, PE) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) designations considered an asset
  • Proven track record of managing utility-scale projects, with a preference for previous BESS and Solar experience
  • Strong knowledge of MS Project, P6, or Primavera
  • Strong technical analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Familiarity with energy storage systems and renewable energy technologies is required
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools (Procore)
  • Knowledge of regulatory and permitting processes in the energy sector

Responsibilities

  • Take the lead in developing detailed project plans, schedules, and assist in the formation of budgets for mid-to-large scale BESS and/or solar projects
  • Collaborate with management and development to identify and review project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure all potential issues are addressed proactively.
  • Coordinate and contribute to engineering design reviews during late-stage development and provide input regarding feasibility and constructability
  • Lead the transition and development of project documentation and permitting from the Development Team to the Construction Team
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of permitting applications and compliance documents, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met
  • Support the evaluation of risks on mature project sites, including site visits and data collection
  • Collaborate with the Engineering and Procurement team to ensure project designs meet technical, vendor, and regulatory requirements, and provide expert reviews on design documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Serve as the commercial lead for EPC contracting, negotiation, review, and administration, collaborating with Legal, Preconstruction, Finance, and Engineering teams to define the scope of work.
  • Engage with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and quality control
  • Work with Procurement to identify scope gaps before or after the execution of respective contracts
  • Lead and administer meetings with EPC contractors, suppliers, and interconnecting utilities for projects before mobilization
  • Maintain effective communication and schedules with internal project teams, contractors, and external stakeholders, ensuring all parties are informed and aligned.
  • Ensure that projects adhere to environmental and safety standards and assist in the development of safety plans and protocols
  • Maintain project documentation, including contracts, permits, and reports, and prepare regular progress reports for senior management and stakeholders
  • Provide guidance and support to preconstruction stakeholder and junior associates
  • Other duties as assigned or required.
