The Senior Powertrain Calibration Technical Specialist will support powertrain calibration engineers and management to deliver quality, regulatory compliant powertrain calibrations to our customers by leveraging their technical expertise in the areas of control strategy development, bench-based characterization and mapping, in-vehicle calibration processes and project planning. The role will also include engineer mentoring and training responsibilities as well as supporting business activities such as customer technical interface, developing project quotations with detailed cost and timing. This position is in Livonia, MI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in gasoline powertrain calibration development for the U.S. market.
  • Strong experience preparing and presenting complex subject matter to leadership, internal teams and customers.
  • Valid drivers license and excellent driving record.
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be an effective leader while acting within a cross-functional team.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide robust solutions to complex problems in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, including the ability convey technical information to non-technical audiences appropriately and write concise technical reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Major U.S. certified vehicle OEM control system experience.
  • Gasoline engine calibration and development experience.
  • 15+ years of automotive calibration development experience with a major U.S. OEM.

Responsibilities

  • Provide powertrain calibration expertise in cross-functional problem-solving team scenarios, both intercompany and with customers.
  • Develop project quotations for a diverse range of customers. Quotations often include a wide range of engineering resources including engine dynamometer, vehicle chassis rolls and emissions lab, vehicle testing proving grounds and climatic facilities, SIL/HIL bench, etc.
  • Support sales team by describing technical capabilities and project proposal technical details in formal presentation format.
  • Prepare and present complex subject matter to leadership and customer teams. May include on-site customer visits.
  • Apply powertrain development experience and expertise to customer’s requirements such as standardized milestone deliverables, DVP&R test methods and acceptance criteria, and certification test data submission support.
  • Provide technical oversight including evaluations of engineering issues and making risk assessments to be shared with customers.
  • Help train and mentor a group of motivated powertrain calibration engineers to expand their capabilities and work product quality
