The Senior Power Systems Engineer will own development, design and test of IGBT-based inverter power architectures associated with the propulsion and auxiliary functions on our locomotive and off-highway mining truck applications. Primary focus will be to own and support liquid-cooled design strategies, power agnostic truck designs along with supporting our latest battery-electric “FLXdrive” locomotive system architectures. The candidate will have deep knowledge in high-power inverter/converter systems in the transportation environments and understand battery control topologies.

Requirements

  • Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering (Ph.D. Desired) w/ 10+ years industry experience.
  • Strong ability in converting system-level requirements into conceptualized solutions.
  • Expert in power converter circuit design.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with IGBT-based closed-loop control systems.
  • Ability to define gate drive functional requirements.
  • Up-to-Date with latest technology trends and established relationships within the power semiconductor industry.
  • Silicon and Silicon Carbide power mosfet experience.
  • Expertise in Silicon Carbide driving and control.
  • Strong working knowledge of Matlab, Simulink and ability to create plant-models for OPAL-RT based Hardware in the Loop (HIL) simulators.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PLECS and Simplorer.
  • Ability to identify parasitic parameters like stray capacitance to ground.

Responsibilities

  • Own development, design and test of IGBT-based inverter power architectures.
  • Support liquid-cooled design strategies and power agnostic truck designs.
  • Develop and validate power electronics, converters and associated control.
  • Conceptualize ideas into real products and mentor peers.
  • Analyze complex electro-mechanical system behaviors.
  • Troubleshoot field issues via system analysis and lab testing.
