This position reports to: Area Field Service Manager __ We are seeking a highly skilled Field Technician with deep expertise in power delivery systems, switchgear, and PLC-based automation of industrial, commercial and utility processes particularly in the field of critical power controls. In this role, you will perform installation, troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance on electrical distribution equipment. The work model for the role is Hybrid including some time in the office at ABB’s Linthicum Heights, MD location, some remote work in your Home Office for engineering preparation and at customer sites mostly in the Maryland and Washington, DC area. However, travel to other areas in the Mid-Atlantic Region is to be expected. This role is contributing to the profitability of the ABB Electrification Services Division in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED with 8 years of engineering or field experience in power delivery work. Additional formal education may substitute for required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Strong knowledge of switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, and low/medium voltage systems.
  • Experience with Protective relay programming (Multilin, SEL, etc.).
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% as required.
  • Ability and willingness to possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Strong Computer skills to include Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for hands-on execution of projects including Startup, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, engineering, design and repair of Power Delivery equipment including switchgear, Circuit Breakers, PLCs, Relays, Power Management Controls systems and other Power related equipment & controls.
  • Program and configure PLC systems, distributed I/O, and HMI interfaces for power monitoring and automation.
  • Develop electrical equipment layouts, schematics, network architectures, and bills of material.
