About The Position

The Senior Portfolio Accountant plays a critical role in overseeing the accounting, financial reporting, and compliance requirements for Cabot’s private real estate funds and separate accounts. This individual will ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, review internal and third-party property reporting, and support audits, cash forecasting, and investor reporting. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.
  • 4–6 years of experience in real estate, fund, or client accounting.
  • Prior experience preparing consolidated financial statements and supporting audits.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with property or fund accounting systems such as MRI, Yardi, or similar platforms strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements for Cabot’s funds and separate accounts in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Review property-level financials results prepared by internal and third-party managers to ensure accuracy and consistency with Cabot’s accounting policies.
  • Analyze fund and portfolio level results, identifying and explaining key variances.
  • Support the preparation of investor reporting packages and management reports.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly cash forecasts for assigned funds or accounts.
  • Monitor and record capital activity, distributions, and investment transactions.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, accruals, and expense allocations.
  • Prepare or review bank reconciliations.
  • Support annual audits, liaising with external auditors to provide requested documentation and resolve inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and company policies.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing accuracy and efficiency in reporting.
  • Partner with Portfolio Management, Asset Management, and Investor Relations to support financial analysis and reporting needs.
  • Coordinate with internal and external accounting teams to ensure consistency and completeness of financial information.
  • Provide ad hoc reporting and support for special projects as needed.
