About The Position

The position involves supervising and participating in lifeguard duties to ensure the safety of patrons at a pool with depths greater than nine feet. The role includes managing an aquatic center or facility, planning, scheduling, and supervising the work of lifeguards and other assigned employees. Responsibilities also include planning, organizing, and conducting instructional and recreational activities, maintaining and repairing the facilities, and working with community groups and the public on program activities and scheduling. The position requires performing other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school.
  • Two years of lifeguarding work experience.
  • Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor's Certificate.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor Certificate or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid State of Hawai'i driver's license (Class 3) or comparable license.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and establishes work schedules for lifeguards and others assigned to the pool.
  • Plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates all programs and activities for the assigned facility.
  • Maintains liaison with the public and community groups to survey interests and recruit volunteers.
  • Works with the public, other agencies, and county personnel to address issues regarding the pool.
  • Enforces ordinances, laws, and safety regulations.
  • Watches over patrons at a public swimming pool to protect life and prevent accidents.
  • Performs rescues and resuscitations when necessary.
  • Administers first aid for injuries.
  • Conducts training classes and drills in lifesaving techniques.
  • Assists in planning and coordinating county-wide aquatic activities.
  • Maintains, sets up, and operates various pool equipment.
  • Inspects the pool and facilities and initiates maintenance work orders.
  • Maintains and oversees the maintenance of all equipment and supplies associated with the pool.
  • Maintains water quality to meet health standards and regulations.
  • Participates in personnel related matters concerning employees assigned to the facility.
  • Operates a vehicle to run errands.
  • May assist in pool maintenance.
