About The Position

The Miami Herald is looking for a senior political correspondent to cover President Donald Trump's administration from the president's home state, where he and his allies are looking to make America Florida during his second term. This reporter will cover Trump with a Florida lens, keeping a watchful eye on the Sunshine State characters occupying key positions in the second Trump administration, the influence of the region's deep-pocketed donors on the president, and Trump's businesses and actions - including his policies that have important consequences for the people who live here. This journalist should have a proven track record of generating ahead-of-the-curve story ideas, cultivating the sources necessary to break exclusives in an extremely competitive landscape, and a flair for writing timely, authoritative, relevant stories. The political correspondent should have the drive and ability to deliver compelling enterprise, and the writing skills to make sure stories don't get lost in the weeds but rather capture the audience. This position is not for inside-the-Beltway writers, or journalists who like to run with the pack. It is for news junkies who love the craft of writing and reporting and embrace the changing industry in which we operate. The senior correspondent will join a newsroom that has won 24 Pulitzer Prizes, including the 2022 Pulitzer for Breaking News for coverage of the Surfside condo collapse. The correspondent will work with our reporters in Miami, in Tallahassee and in Washington, with an eye to shaping and strengthening our political coverage.
