Senior Platform Engineer
About The Position
Markon is seeking a Platform Engineer to support a technical development program for an Intelligence Customer. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing reliable, robust, and resilient platform capabilities that enable software development teams to deliver mission-critical solutions. The Platform Engineer will work as part of a large, multidisciplinary team that includes developers, software engineers, cybersecurity engineers, database administrators, and system architects. This position requires significant, hands-on systems engineering experience and the ability to provide practical, execution-focused engineering support to mission teams.
Requirements
- Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
- Bachelor’s degree with 6–10 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience working with cloud service providers, AWS required
- Proven experience performing Platform Engineering functions
- Demonstratable working experience with containers (Docker/Podman) and/or container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes)
- Strong hands-on systems engineering experience
- Experience performing regular maintenance of cloud infrastructure resources, including patching, configuration, and upgrades
- Experience working with security engineers to remediate findings from system security scans
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional project teams including Software Development, Systems Engineering, Security Compliance, and Quality Assurance
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Nice To Haves
- Demonstratable working experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and Packer
- Demonstratable working experience with serverless platforms (e.g., AWS Lambda)
- Experience supporting security accreditation and authorization processes
- Experience working in Agile, SAFe, or Scrum development environments
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement platform systems that support enterprise software development and mission operations
- Deliver innovative platform products, services, or integrated solutions that address specific customer requirements
- Support the development, deployment, and sustainment of enterprise software solutions within the customer’s cloud environments
- Provide execution guidance and hands-on engineering support to mission teams throughout the development lifecycle
- Administer and maintain cloud infrastructure resources, including configuration, patching, upgrades, and ongoing optimization
- Support platform reliability, scalability, and resiliency through sound systems and platform engineering practices
- Collaborate with cybersecurity engineers to identify, address, and mitigate findings resulting from system security scans
- Support routine operational activities, including troubleshooting platform issues and assisting with root cause analysis
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including Software Development, Systems Engineering, Security Compliance, and Quality Assurance to ensure alignment with mission and security requirements
- Contribute to technical documentation, system configuration management, and operational best practices
