About The Position

Modern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and sustainment of secure, cloud-native infrastructure supporting mission-critical government programs. This role requires deep hands-on expertise in cloud architecture (AWS preferred), Kubernetes, DevSecOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD automation, identity and access management, and observability within classified environments. The Senior Platform Engineer will architect scalable and resilient platform solutions, integrate security and compliance controls, support operational troubleshooting across Linux and Windows systems, and collaborate closely with engineering teams and government stakeholders to deliver high-quality, mission-ready systems aligned to zero-trust and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) TS/SCI with CI Polygraph security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field).
  • Must meet DoD 8570 requirements, including Security+ CE or an equivalent certification.
  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience in systems, platform, cloud, or DevSecOps engineering roles.
  • Proven experience architecting, building, and sustaining scalable, secure systems in single- or multi-cloud environments (AWS preferred; Azure acceptable), including cross-domain or regulated environments.
  • Strong expertise in CI/CD, DevSecOps, and automation practices, including infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, GitLab, and related technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized, cloud-native environments, including implementation of cloud-native security controls.
  • Experience integrating complex systems using APIs, messaging/streaming platforms, and ETL pipelines, with development experience in scripting or automation languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Groovy.
  • Experience designing and supporting relational and non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch) within distributed platform environments.
  • Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and performance visibility solutions, and leveraging observability data to troubleshoot and optimize system reliability.
  • Knowledge of identity and access management (IdAM) technologies, including Active Directory, LDAP, SAML, OAuth 2.0, and OIDC, and applying zero-trust principles in secure environments.
  • Experience supporting automated testing strategies and secure software delivery, including functional and security validation within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with customer security requirements and compliance processes in classified, regulated, or mission-critical environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex system issues across infrastructure and application layers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document architectures and explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating enterprise workflow, ticketing, or automation platforms (e.g., ServiceNow or custom-built solutions) within secure, mission-critical environments.
  • Experience designing or supporting event-driven architectures and distributed systems patterns in cloud-native environments.
  • Exposure to multi-cloud or hybrid cloud strategies beyond AWS, including Azure or other enterprise cloud providers.
  • Experience optimizing cloud environments for performance, cost, scalability, and resiliency in regulated or classified settings.
  • Experience integrating virtualized, edge, or streamed application environments within secure infrastructure architectures.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-scale architecture governance, systems integration frameworks, or model-based engineering environments in large government programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute at a system-of-systems level, understanding dependencies across cloud services, infrastructure, security controls, and application layers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex design, architecture, implementation, and sustainment activities for secure, cloud-based platform and infrastructure solutions.
  • Deploy and maintain cloud-native environments using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), Configuration-as-Code (CaC), and DevSecOps principles to integrate platform components and services.
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines supporting applications, databases, and infrastructure, incorporating automated testing and code quality validation.
  • Test and validate new features and services, identify defects, and implement reliable fixes to support secure and repeatable deployments.
  • Develop and enhance monitoring, logging, and performance reporting solutions using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk to ensure system visibility and reliability.
  • Configure and manage identity and access management services, including Active Directory and LDAP, while supporting networking, ingress/egress controls, and zero-trust access concepts.
  • Provide operational support across Linux and Windows environments, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, remediation, and system performance optimization.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, including infrastructure diagrams, user guides, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, cross-functional stakeholders, and customer end users to design, enhance, and support integrated platform and application solutions.
  • Communicate technical status, risks, and solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including government leadership.
  • Apply engineering best practices, configuration management discipline, and Agile methodologies to deliver high-quality, mission-ready systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to junior engineers and cross-functional teams.
