About The Position

The Sr Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the sand processing plant and related equipment to ensure continuous production. This role oversees material flow by operating and maintaining pumps, conveyors, screws, screens, and heavy machinery while performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting mechanical or electrical issues. The Sr Plant Operator also operates haul trucks, track hoes, bulldozers, front-end loaders, and material screeners, and manages truck weigh scale operations to support daily production goals and product quality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience operating or maintaining sand, aggregate, or concrete processing equipment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency operating haul trucks, trackhoes, bulldozers, front-end loaders, and screening systems.
  • Basic mechanical, electrical, and welding skills required.
  • Ability to read and interpret written and verbal instructions, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality with flexibility to work overtime or extended hours as production demands.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 75 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, and operate equipment for extended periods.
  • Must have the physical stamina, dexterity, and visual acuity to safely operate and maintain heavy machinery.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Sandvik QA 340 and/or QA 441 screeners strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in mining, materials processing, or construction operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all job duties in accordance with company safety, environmental, and operational policies without exception.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures while promoting and upholding company values.
  • Start up and shut down plant systems safely, including conveyors, pumps, valves, generators, and breakers.
  • Prime and operate fresh water, glam water, and slurry pumps to maintain proper flow and water levels for production.
  • Operate, monitor, and adjust conveyors, screws, and screening systems to maintain consistent material flow and product quality.
  • Operate material screeners, ensuring optimal screening performance, proper calibration, and consistent material sizing.
  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently, including haul trucks, track hoes (excavators), bulldozers, and front-end loaders for use in materials movement.
  • Operate the truck weigh scale to verify and record load weights in compliance with company and DOT standards.
  • Communicate effectively with loader and screen operators to coordinate material feeding and maintain consistent production.
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PMs) twice weekly, including greasing bearings, belts, screws, and other moving components.
  • Track and adjust conveyor belts to maintain proper alignment and prevent wear or damage.
  • Conduct inspections of pumps, hoses, valves, and hydraulics; identify and repair leaks, worn parts, or blockages.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor electrical repairs, including wire splicing, connector replacement, and circuit verification.
  • Perform basic welding and fabrication, including repairing buckets, replacing wear plates, and maintaining plant equipment.
  • Flush hoses and water lines to prevent blockages and maintain consistent plant operation.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic leaks by replacing lines or fittings, refilling reservoirs, and verifying system operation.
  • Maintain the Hagler system and related pump stations by identifying and clearing blockages to restore flow and pressure.
  • Clean and maintain plant walkways, platforms, and equipment to ensure a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
  • Lead or assist other operators and maintenance personnel as needed; demonstrate strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of plant operations, maintenance, and equipment inspections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
