About The Position

The Senior Planner plays a crucial role in managing and reviewing complex planning projects within the Current Planning Unit of the Community & Economic Development Division. This position requires advanced skills in research, analysis, and public outreach, focusing on long-range policy creation, environmental protection, and compliance with zoning ordinances. The Senior Planner will lead technical planning processes for significant site developments and present land use cases to various city boards and commissions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Geography, Environmental Sciences, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Five years of professional planning experience or an equivalent combination of education and job-related experience.

  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices in urban planning.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in and reviews complex planning projects requiring extensive public outreach and policy implementation.
  • Provides leadership in the plan review of multiple cases involving planning and zoning ordinances, City codes, and design guidelines.
  • Leads technical planning processes for large-scale site developments, interpreting and applying City ordinances and policies.
  • Offers technical leadership to professional planning staff, assisting in data gathering, analysis, and recommendations.
  • Makes independent decisions on planning issues related to public hearings, subdivisions, and policy recommendations.
  • Ensures compliance with the General Plan, zoning ordinances, and environmental sustainability through quality compliance processes.
  • Presents land use and development cases to City Council, Planning Commission, and other relevant boards.
