We are currently seeking a Senior Planner in our Hartford, CT office. As a Senior Planner you will play a critical role in shaping the future of communities by creating plans that balance community needs with environmental sustainability and economic viability and provide effective design solutions that meet the client’s project goals and budget. This role involves significant interaction with client’s, public officials, developers, and the community, requiring strong leadership and communication skills. Additionally, this role is responsible for leading complex planning projects and initiatives, and will provide expert guidance on land use, zoning, design, transportation, and environmental planning.

Requirements

  • Expert in regulatory compliance and sustainability
  • Skilled in ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, and SketchUp
  • Strong research and technical design skills
  • Strong analysis and problem solving skills, with an attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational skills, particularly with regard to project management
  • Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
  • Ability to mentor, train, motivate and lead others
  • Demonstrates leadership traits in the Project Management career path
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight stays
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Planning, Environment Studies, Architecture, or Arts, or equivalent required
  • 14 years of experience minimum required, 16 preferred, in the planning industry

Nice To Haves

  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification preferred
  • OR Associates degree, or certificate, in Planning, Environmental Studies, Geography, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Arts, or equivalent preferred
  • 18 years of experience minimum required, 20 preferred, in the planning industry
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage strategic initiatives, ensuring they align with the client’s/ organization's goals, meet the regulatory requirements and are within budget
  • Sets policy and guideline direction to support sustainable development and community growth
  • Collaborate with client’s, government officials, developers, community groups, and other stakeholders to gather input and build consensus on planning initiatives
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on planning issues, including demographic trends, land use patterns, and environmental impacts
  • Facilitate public meetings, workshops, and hearings to engage the community and gather feedback on planning proposals
  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze spatial data and create detailed maps for planning purposes
  • Completes and reviews project concepts and master plans
  • Completes and reviews site evaluation studies, reports, and entitlement drawing submissions
  • Provides technical support for condemnation project work
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and planning documents to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders
  • Project management on some projects, including attending meetings, budgeting, scheduling, proposals and billing
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior planners and planning technicians, fostering professional development and growth
