About The Position

Performs a variety of supervisory, administrative and technical work in the current and long-range planning programs of the City related to the development and implementation of land use and related municipal plans and policies, requiring advanced professional planning experience.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in land-use planning, urban planning, landscape architecture, public administration or a closely related field, and
• Four (4) years experience in municipal planning; or
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience, additional education substituting on a year for year basis for the required experience.
• Thorough knowledge of zoning laws and comprehensive plans including their formation, process of adoption, and enforcement
• Extensive knowledge of planning programs and processes
• Working knowledge of Personal Computers and GIS applications
• Skilled in the area of drafting and designing
• Skilled in the operation of the listed tools and equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with architects, contractors, developers, owners, supervisors, employees, and the general public
• Ability to establish effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Manages complex planning studies, development applications and reviews consultant proposals
• Reviews and processes complex comprehensive plan amendments, re-zonings, annexations, site plans, plats
• Provides professional planning assistance to member communities on varied land use projects
• Works in regional program areas relating to natural/water resources planning, community development, hazard mitigation, coastal zone management and others
• Prepares and presents reports and other findings to staff, planning and zoning boards and commissions, and elected officials and serves as liaison
• Serves as a member of various staff committees as assigned.
• Attends professional development workshops and conferences to keep abreast of trends and developments in the field of municipal planning.
