About The Position

BakerHicks is seeking a Senior Planner to support the delivery of projects across the utilities and HV power sector, including transmission and distribution environments. This role will focus on the development, management, and analysis of project schedules across engineering design, construction support, and handover phases. Working closely with multi‑disciplinary teams, Project Managers, and clients, you will play a key role in driving planning best practice, managing risk, and supporting consistent, high‑quality project delivery. As Senior Planner, you will take ownership of programme planning and controls, ensuring schedules are robust, compliant, and aligned with contractual obligations, project objectives, and client expectations. You will be embedded within delivery teams, providing clear planning insight, earned value reporting, and confident challenge where required. This role is suited to an established planning professional with strong technical, commercial, and stakeholder management capability within utilities and HV environments. Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience developing and managing project schedules for utilities or HV power projects (not rail related)
  • Strong proficiency in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Excel
  • A solid understanding of engineering design, construction sequencing, and handover activities
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and earned value management capability
  • Sound commercial and contractual awareness
  • The ability to influence, challenge, and negotiate effectively
  • A proactive, detail‑focused, and collaborative approach
  • Experience within the engineering and construction market, ideally in utilities or HV power (not rail related)
  • Understanding of the engineering design process for HV power, transmission and distribution, or utilities (not rail related as this falls under a different scope)
  • Experience working with engineering and construction contractors
  • Confident engagement with client representatives and project stakeholders
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for reporting and analysis
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work accurately under pressure
  • Full UK driving licence and flexibility to attend project and site locations as required

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, production, and management of multiple project schedules
  • Ensure schedules fully capture all tasks, deliverables, dependencies, and review cycles
  • Administer programme requirements in line with contractual obligations and internal procedures
  • Monitor progress against baseline schedules and provide accurate progress and earned value updates
  • Identify schedule variances, risks, and mitigation strategies, escalating where appropriate
  • Prepare regular progress reports highlighting milestones, trends, and areas of concern
  • Support effective resource planning, capacity management, and identification of constraints
  • Lead risk identification and contribute to contingency and recovery planning
  • Act as a key point of contact for planning and scheduling communication with clients and stakeholders
  • Integrate fully with project teams to deliver a high‑quality service and support repeat work
