About The Position

The Senior Piping Designer at AECOM will support the Energy Business Line by providing mechanical engineering services across various sectors, including oil and gas, industrial processes, and renewable fuels. This role involves collaborating with engineers and project managers, preparing mechanical and piping deliverables, and managing project execution while ensuring safety and constructability. The successful candidate will have a strong background in piping design and CAD skills, with a focus on effective communication and teamwork.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 6 years of relevant industrial experience or AA/AS + 10 years of relevant industrial experience.
  • Highly proficient in piping design and CAD skills.
  • Physical design experience for industrial facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in AutoCAD Plant 3D.

Nice To Haves

  • Adaptability and curiosity in learning new software and applications.
  • Experience utilizing and integrating data sets into 3D models (e.g., laser scans, LiDAR).
  • Experience in CadWorx, Revit, Solidworks, ReCap.
  • Experience with Plant 3D project setup and pipe specification creation.
  • Experience working in collaborative model environments (e.g., Navisworks).
  • Experience in managing Common Data Environments including ProjectWise, BIM 360.
  • Experience with field walkdowns.
  • Working knowledge of piping specifications and pipe stress analysis.
  • 5+ years experience as project technical piping lead.
  • Success in leading remote teams.
  • Strong experience leveraging laser scan or other data sets to inform design development.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to develop design criteria and progress through all stages of design.
  • Prepare mechanical and piping deliverables considering constructability, safety, and project constraints.
  • Create equipment general arrangements, P&ID's, isometrics, asset and tie-in lists, and orthographic drawings.
  • Prepare bills of materials and quantity take-offs.
  • Utilize various data sources to build project model environments, including laser scans and vendor files.
  • Manage survey and client data throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct meetings with clients for project kickoff, ongoing design review, and project closeout.
  • Perform complex CAD assignments and coordinate CAD drawing production.
  • Manage discipline project execution by maintaining project budgets, staffing plans, and schedule updates.
  • Contribute to business development activities and create/update group-specific standards.
  • Assist in preparing project specifications and contract documents.
  • Check and verify work prepared by peers or groups.
