About The Position

A Senior Piping Designer is a highly experienced professional responsible for all aspects of piping drafting and design for projects of varying size and complexity. This role requires the ability to perform assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision. Senior Piping Designers are proficient in both 2D and 3D design environments and skilled in incorporating 3D scans into their work. They serve as competent checkers and can oversee other designers and drafters as part of a larger design team. Strong design, drafting, and leadership skills are essential, along with a broad understanding of principles and practices across multiple engineering disciplines. The position demands proactive communication and regular reporting on project progress to ensure quality, schedule adherence, and budget compliance. Senior Piping Designers also assist the Department Manager with preparing and submitting estimates for proposals when assigned. Collaboration with other designers, engineering leads, and project managers is a key aspect of the role. While they work independently on most tasks, Senior Piping Designers receive guidance on overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in Piping Design
  • Associate degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design or equivalent technical training
  • Ability to coordinate with other disciplines and project management in a team environment.
  • Coordinate with vendors and clients.
  • Manage budgets and schedules.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Bluebeam.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, CADWorx, Navisworks.
  • Experience reading and understanding P&IDs.
  • Experience in field assignments gathering dimensional information and photos.
  • Familiarity with industry design standards.
  • Familiarity with generation of Isometrics and MTOs.
  • Familiarity with utilizing 3D laser scans in CAD environment.
  • Experience leading model reviews with a design team (all Disciplines).
  • Experience leading model reviews with a client.
  • Ability to form and foster collaborative relationships within Eichleay and with clients and partners.
  • Frequent travel will be required to a nearby refinery site location.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience inputting piping specifications into CADWorx.
  • Knowledge of creating and manipulating Isogen borders and setups.
  • Experience preforming 3D scans in the field.
  • Experience with CADWorx Equipment and the CADWorx Support Modeler.
  • Experience with Autodesk Vault.
  • Experience working with high value engineering centers based in other countries.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review piping layouts, isometrics, and support details using CAD tools (e.g., CADWorx).
  • Interpret and apply P&IDs, plot plans, tie-in lists, and piping specifications.
  • Lead design efforts for greenfield and brownfield projects in oil & gas, mining, food & beverage, and power sectors.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to resolve design issues and maintain project schedules.
  • Provide on-site support during construction phases, including troubleshooting and design adjustments.
  • Mentor junior designers and manage small to mid-sized design teams (1–12 designers).
  • Utilize 3D laser scanning for accurate modeling and tie-in planning.
