About The Position

The Senior Product Taxonomist at SRS Distribution is responsible for optimizing and managing the product taxonomy, metadata schema, and data governance within the Product Information Management System (PIM). This role involves leading initiatives to enhance data organization and retrieval, ensuring that taxonomies meet the needs of various eCommerce customer portals and serve as the authoritative source for product data across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in taxonomy development and management, preferably within a PIM environment.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale taxonomy projects and initiatives.
  • Advanced knowledge of PIM systems, metadata management, and data governance.
  • Proficiency in metadata modeling, ontology development, and semantic technologies.
  • Master's degree in library science or information management preferred (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Detail-oriented professional with a passion for data management and product information.
  • Passionate researcher of diverse product categories and desire to develop best-in-class data standards.

Nice To Haves

  • PIM experience desired (InRiver, Salsify, Infomatica, etc.)
  • Ecommerce experience in a B2B or B2C environment desired.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Ability to think strategically and solve complex problems.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize and manage PIM taxonomy and its metadata schema, ensuring consistent and accurate mapping of product data across multiple systems.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve taxonomy processes.
  • Develop and enforce taxonomy governance policies and procedures.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance the user experience through better data organization and retrieval.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and ensure that the taxonomy aligns with business needs.
  • Proactively identify data model gaps and take appropriate actions to resolve.
  • Develop attributes and controlled value lists in accordance with best practices.
  • Conduct regular audits and updates to maintain taxonomy relevance and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to the taxonomy and ensure it is kept up to date.
  • Provide expert guidance and training on taxonomy best practices to internal teams including Search, SEO, IT and Marketing.
  • Provide mentorship to and support the growth of members of the product data operations team.
  • Other responsibilities and projects as assigned.
