About The Position

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center is seeking a skilled medical physicist to join the physics group of an expanding department of Radiation Oncology in a patient-focused, high-tech environment offering leading edge treatments including a newly installed Icon Gamma Knife, MR-guided treatments, OSMS, ExacTrac, INTRABEAM IORT, TBI, HDR treatments and LDR implants. The department is comprised of two departments located across the street from each other: one is located on the 4th floor of a recently built 18-story outpatient facility while the 2nd is a hospital-based department. Treatment planning is provided through a combination of Eclipse, Brainlab, Leksell Gamma Plan, and Velocity platforms, all sharing ARIA as our backbone for EMR and Record&Verify systems. You would be actively involved with the Gamma Knife Icon unit which is situated within the Radiation Oncology clinical department, as well as participate in other standard radiation therapy physics activities: machine calibrations, equipment QA, treatment planning activities, dosimetry measurements, calculations, brachytherapy, radiation safety and some teaching. The department has a CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics Residency program. Act in a leadership capacity within the physics group of the department of Radiation Oncology to provide technical and operational guidance and expertise in support of various clinical programs under the direction and supervision of the Chief of Physics. Will be available as a resource for all clinical staff and more specifically for physicist staff as it pertains to the defined areas of responsibility. Responsible for maintaining current radiation beam data in the treatment planning systems to be used in the calculations of absorbed dose. Participates in Resident teaching activities, identifies new quality improvement projects and actively participates in the research activities of the section of medical physics and the department of Radiation Oncology.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in physics, medical physics or related field.
  • If the advanced degree is in a related field, completion of a fellowship/traineeship in medical physics from a hospital-based program or an accredited medical physics residency program.
  • New York State Licensed medical physicist, or New York State License eligible and obtained within 1 year of hire.
  • ABR certified.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in the practice of radiation oncology physics.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Gamma Knife.
  • Experience with Varian TrueBeam, Eclipse, Brainlab and IGRT.
