About The Position

The Senior Pharmacy Technician, under the direction of the Pharmacist, leads and coordinates the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of the medication room. This role is responsible for the oversight of medication inventory, preparation, and distribution, while also providing guidance and support to pharmacy team members. Working under the supervision of the Pharmacist, the Senior Technician takes a proactive leadership role in optimizing workflows, ensuring medication safety, and serving as a resource for clinical and administrative staff. The Senior Pharmacy Technician also collaborates with the pharmacist to develop and implement clinical pharmacy programs and health initiatives, and holds operational responsibility for collecting, analyzing, and reporting key data to internal stakeholders and external partners.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certified or Registered Pharmacy Technician (Florida)
  • PTCB certification is required
  • Minimum 7-10 years of pharmacy technician experience, preferably in a clinical or outpatient setting
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support other team members
  • Strong time management, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in data entry, reporting tools, and use of electronic medical records
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Must pass a Level II Background Screening
  • Must have transportation and a valid Florida driver’s license
  • Flexibility to work various shifts to support clinic coverage and pharmacy operations
  • May sit, stand, bend, stoop, and walk intermittently throughout the day; may sit or stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours)
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Works in a typical clinical office setting with exposure to medical and pharmaceutical environments.

Responsibilities

  • Supports healthcare providers and patients by greeting them in person and by phone, answering questions and requests, and appropriately triaging inquiries to clinical staff.
  • Ensures optimal medication availability and inventory accuracy by: Monitoring pharmaceutical stock to assess inventory levels Anticipating medication and supply needs based on usage trends Placing and expediting orders as needed Verifying medication receipt, logging inventory, and documenting per clinic policy Conducting regular audits Managing the removal, documentation, and return of expired medications in compliance with regulatory and clinic guidelines
  • Oversees medication organization and preparation by reading medication orders, reviewing EMR information, preparing labels, and accurately calculating quantities.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and well-organized medication room by complying with procedures, safety rules, and all applicable regulatory standards.
  • Maintains accurate records by recording and filing prescriptions, physicians’ orders, and inventory logs.
  • Assists in the preparation and supervised distribution of medications to patients, ensuring accurate documentation and communication with providers.
  • Leads efforts to manage the biomedical waste program in full compliance with state regulations and clinic protocols.
  • Collaborates with clinical staff on special projects and quality improvement initiatives related to pharmacy operations.
  • Acts as a subject matter resource for pharmacy policies, procedures, and workflows, supporting continuous process improvement.
  • Assists the pharmacist in designing, implementing, and supporting clinical pharmacy programs and initiatives—including medication adherence programs, patient education efforts, chronic disease management, and public health interventions.
  • Collects, maintains, and reports pharmacy-related operational data (e.g., inventory levels, distribution volumes, patient assistance usage) to internal pharmacy leadership and external partners as required.
  • Prepares reports, tracks key performance indicators, and ensures timely submission of data to support compliance and strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and professionalism in all interactions with residents, families, guests, and staff.
  • Adjusts priorities to meet patient needs, supports safety and comfort in all work areas, and adheres to universal precautions and infection control procedures.
  • Participation in facility safety protocols for emergencies, including fire and weather-related events, is expected.
