About The Position

This position will be the primary safety resource for Transportation and Rail Operations assets in Cadiz and Marietta Ohio, as well as Leach Kentucky. The Safety Professional is responsible for various safety activities, including program development and interpretation, safety training, auditing, and corrective actions. The candidate should be familiar with OSHA standards and recordkeeping, and state and federal DOT regulations. In addition, the candidate should have some experience in safety auditing, incident investigation, and emergency response. This position reports to the West District T&R Safety Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, science, engineering, or other related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in occupational health and safety within the petroleum industry and hazardous material transportation business preferred.
  • Able to effectively manage time and determine priorities.
  • Proficient in writing and maintaining regulatory programs, standards, and procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook and Intelex
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze regulations and identify and succinctly communicate applicable requirements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in interactions with regulatory agencies, engineering and operations staff, and management.
  • Project management skills / ability to identify, assign, track, and drive action items through completion.
  • May require working outside of normal business hours including weekends and/or holidays.
  • 50% or more travel with overnight stays.
  • Current Valid Driver's License Required.
  • Conditions include climbing ladders, climbing on, under and over piping and walking on uneven ground, working in high places, working in elevated and reduced temperature environments, and working near equipment that may have hydrocarbon odors.
  • May be required to be fit tested for a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates a weekly cross functional team of HESS and Compliance stakeholders to review recent incidents, recommendations, investigations, and ad hoc HES and compliance topics.
  • Is responsible for ensuring the compliant maintenance of OSHA records and documentation, and annually providing accurate OSHA injury logs to Personal Safety professionals.
  • Supports T&R operations – trucking fleets, vehicle service garages, administrative offices, learning, and development – as a technical resource for safety issues, including the interpretation of standards and regulations, accident/incident investigations, and operations expansion support.
  • Assists and directly develops, coordinates, and presents various safety training courses to T&R personnel.
  • Continuously assess safety risks within the area, develop and execute mitigation plans to address risks. Assessments include in-cab ride-alongs with fleet drivers, unannounced field observations, facility audits and similar.
  • Conduct third-party contractor safety vetting and meet with contractors to communicate safety expectations and help them meet the Company's expectations.
  • Review work permits, correct deficiencies, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Serves as an advocate for front-line employees to help them safely complete work.
  • Ensure OSHA and state and federal DOT compliance.
  • Interaction with T&R personnel to ensure they are following safety procedures and regulations.
  • Provide leadership and collaborate powerfully with organizational safety leaders to continually improve personal safety performance.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) on appropriate regulatory (OSHA/DOT) and legislative products and "what good looks like" in terms of implementation in the field.
  • Lead/Champion various safety programs for the Company. Act as a project leader, gain support, pilot, and roll out innovative safety programs.
  • Lead, or represent HESS on standing and ad hoc safety committees, projects teams, and similar groups.
