About The Position

We are seeking a Senior PCB Layout Design Manager—a self-motivated and driven innovator who is willing to push the boundaries to build state-of-the-art Electronic Control Units (ECUs) for automotive applications. This role requires the person to be responsible for high-speed or power PCB design for ECUs, including critical systems such as zonals, infotainment, Vehicle-Access, and ADAS systems. The ideal candidate must be well-versed with PCB layout design, PI-SI, Power, and high-speed signal routing. This is a highly cross-functional role and may include occasional travel.

Requirements

  • 12+ years’ experience in PCB Layout design.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • Proven experience with full life cycle development from layout to manufacturing.
  • Advanced expertise in High Density (HDI), DDR4/PCIe, signal and power integrity design experience.
  • Experience working in a high-speed environment with short development times.
  • Advanced experience with Altium Designer.
  • Experience defining and developing processes related to PCB design.
  • Demonstrated strong creative thinking and problem-solving toolbox.

Nice To Haves

  • Cadence proficiency is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Design Ownership & Execution
  • Drive and own PCB designs for major automotive systems, including ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), BMS (Battery Management Systems), Body systems, and Infotainment Systems.
  • Design and implement high-speed, power, and mixed-signal PCB layout designs to automotive standards.
  • Manage designs incorporating HDI (High-Density Interconnect) design practices.
  • Oversee high-speed signaling, such as DDR4, PCIe, CSI, and LVDS, as well as HV, and Mixed-Signal design.
  • Improve package designs by effectively addressing space-constraint challenges while balancing performance trade-offs.
  • Build and maintain our component library and be responsible for its integrity.
  • Process and Workflow Leadership
  • Be the primary contributor to overall process and workflow development between engineering and design.
  • Work directly with the Technical Program Manager to align on schedule and build resource plans (based on requirements for process development and working in a high-speed environment).
  • Work with external design houses to manage high workloads
  • Lead process improvement initiatives by working with the Design Manager and EDA team to automate repeat tasks or common errors (supports defining and developing processes and configuring the ECAD tool).
  • Take responsibility for configuring our ECAD tool to ensure complete alignment with the overall Rivian VW technology design and release process.
  • Think holistically ("Zoom Out & Deep Dive"). Understand the impact of your plan or decision on the program and customers.
  • Deep dive into technical issues to drive data-driven decisions.
  • Lead the effort in defining and developing processes related to PCB design.
  • Manufacturing and Quality Management
  • Improve and optimize the durability and performance for automotive designs.
  • Work directly with our contract manufacturer to develop design rules for manufacturing.
  • Implement DFM (Design for Manufacturing) feedback, ensuring all final designs are manufacturable and manufactured to a high standard.
  • Stay up to date on the latest manufacturing techniques.
