The Senior Parent & Family Community Facilitator assists an administrator or program team by providing District-wide training and guidance to administrators, parents, and Parent Community Facilitators regarding State, federal, and District policies and procedures of various parent and community and instructional programs.

Requirements

  • PROMOTIONAL STATUS IS REQUIRED. You must be a current or retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent LAUSD position in which you passed probation.
  • Education: Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.
  • Experience: Three years of experience in a parent/family/community involvement program that included developing and providing workshops, training, and/or professional development.
  • Special: A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the state of California and the use of a motor vehicle or the ability to utilize an alternative form of transportation.

  • The successful candidate is an effective communicator who writes clearly and accurately, applies correct grammar and punctuation, and conveys information professionally in person, by email, by telephone, and in other written formats. They are skilled in developing and delivering training courses/modules for District initiatives and workshops grounded in adult learning principles and are comfortable facilitating discussions and guiding groups in multicultural settings. This includes developing annotated agendas, PowerPoint presentations and facilitator guides, as well as delivering training to school site, Region and central office family engagement practitioners.
  • This role requires strong organizational and analytical abilities, including planning and coordinating District-wide conferences, analyzing evaluation data, compiling reports, and maintaining accurate records. The ideal candidate exercises sound judgment, remains calm and impartial under pressure, handles conflict fairly and openly, and presents factual information with professionalism and integrity.
  • The Senior Parent Community Facilitator works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, parents, students, and community representatives from all racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. They are a thoughtful advocate for children and families, capable of prioritizing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and using technology and office equipment efficiently to support their work.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing and providing training, presentations, workshops, and guidance to Parent & Family Community Facilitators, District administrators, school coordinators, and other individuals or committees relating to parent and family engagement policies and various parent, family and community programs.
  • Planning and coordinating District-wide conferences for various parent and family initiatives.
  • Developing training materials and provides professional development workshops for staff members, parent and family center staff, parents and families and others involved in the school community.
  • Creating, developing, and revising documents such as handbooks, resource guides, and guidelines for advisory committees and councils based on laws and Board policies.
  • Organizing outreach to parents/families and supporting the resolution of concerns to strengthen parent/family, school, and District partnerships.
  • Conducting written evaluations of parent and family meetings and workshops.
  • Surveying parents and families, the community, and school personnel for feedback to improve programs.
  • Conducting elections for various categorical programs and advisory committees as necessary.
  • Documenting program activities by maintaining logs and compiling workshop, training, and meeting documents and materials.
  • Answering or refering questions regarding special education to the appropriate resource.
  • Taking notes, writing summaries of meetings, and preparing a variety of reports.
  • May plan and coordinate monthly parent/family and community meetings with school site administrators, school staff, and other District staff.
  • May transport parents or guardians, staff, or supplies to meetings and conferences.
