About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Senior Paralegal to assist with the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA/Downwinders) claims team. The Senior Paralegal role is crucial in ensuring the efficient and accurate handling of incoming materials supporting claims filed under RECA. This position is responsible for following specific guidance and standard operation procedures to: Complete standardized forms. Process legal documents, reviewing them for correct form and timeliness, and annotating case files and status records to reflect receipt and due date for response or other actions required. Assist attorneys or paralegal specialists in compiling the case materials by retrieving, photocopying, and assembling exhibits, affidavits and legal memoranda. Establish, maintain, and close out case files or systems of legal records, annotating indices and status records, compiling workload and status reports, and locating and abstracting data from files and records. Conduct both technical and legal research. Develop these work products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines. Provide basic lead support to a team of Paralegals and Document Management Technicians.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Requires paralegal certificate, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study. One year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may be substituted for the paralegal certificate.
  • Additionally at least two years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required.
  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
  • Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
