About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Senior Paralegal to join our dynamic team to support the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, DC. This role will work directly with trial attorneys, investigators, and other staff at the Affirmative Litigation Section of the Enforcement and Affirmative Litigation Branch. Responsibilities include: Conduct factual and legal research in legal and non-legal reference sources and databases Utilizes the court's electronic case filing program and apply knowledge of local court rules and procedures for preparing and filing legal documents Review and cite check briefs and other court filings according to Bluebook standards High level of proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint Review, process, and prepare litigation documents covering legal issues as a case progresses through administrative or judicial litigation Draft correspondence, pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents Provide technical support to attorneys during deposition and trial Ensure that pleadings, exhibits, trial notebooks, and similar materials are prepared and ready for trial and evidentiary hearings Prepare and organize evidence for production in discovery and for use in trial Code and index discovery documents using legal case management software Conduct document searches, organizes documents, conducts first level document review, and coordinates document production using such systems Retrieve cases and search legal reference files for information and dates required. Verify citations and legal references in prepared documents Establish and maintain legal references files Indexes, summarizes, and compiles substantive information on statutes, legislation, and specific subjects Manage paper and electronic documents and evidence, correspondence, briefs, witness interviews, and other documentary materials Prepare reports summarizing the case status, legal and factual background, the basis of the complaint, legal issues presented, and relevant case law Prepare summaries of witness interviews, depositions, and meetings with counsel Responsibility for closing out cases and archiving evidence and work product.

Requirements

  • Requires a Paralegal Certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted.
  • At least three years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience is required; trial experience preferred.
  • Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools such as Relativity, and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization.
