About The Position

As a Senior Structural – Transmission Line Engineer you will have the opportunity to support design engineering and analysis on transmission scopes. You will support large, extensive 345kV+ rebuild and greenfield projects, including trending technologies like HVDC and 765kV. Your role will involve collecting and assimilating data for engineering work, performing research, and preparing calculations in accordance with Black & Veatch and industry standards. You will develop recommendations for equipment and materials while understanding and working successfully within budget, project schedule, and quality requirements. Additionally, you may assist with providing guidance to engineering team members and maintain positive client relations through effective communication with the project team.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program.
  • Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
  • Strong experience in 69kV to 500kV overhead transmission line design.
  • Working knowledge and/or expertise in Power Line system based programs (i.e., PLS, PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, etc.) preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline.
  • Previous client interaction experience with solid relationship-building abilities.

  • Experience with the design of utility-scale electrical transmission systems.
  • Structural design of transmission steel structures and their foundations.
  • Basic structural steel and concrete experience using 3D analysis and design software.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies.
  • Applies knowledge and ensures compliance with B&V quality program.
  • Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects.
  • Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
  • Oversees collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work.
  • Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  • Manages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Develops and applies advanced engineering solutions to complex problems.
  • Responsible for ensuring project teams delegate appropriate tasks to lower level team members.
  • Reviews lower level engineering work or assignments.
  • Actively coordinates with all other internal/external team members on complex projects.
  • Responsible for determining identification of key client interests and drivers on projects.
  • Works to identify future client needs and how to better position B&V for the future.
  • Serves as the technical specialist in a broad area of specialization.
  • Typically oversees performance management, career planning, recognition, learning and development, and corrective actions.
  • Actively mentors lower level and mid level professionals.
