GoPro is seeking a candidate for the role of Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer to architect, design, build, test, qualify and document opto-mechanical components and assemblies. The Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer owns the mechanical design of the camera module from concept to mass production and has a direct impact on GoPro's world-class image quality in a highly visible role at the company.

  • Lead the design, documentation, and execution of optical systems from concept through production and into sustaining phases.
  • Design 3D CAD models and draft 2D drawings to create high-precision opto-mechanical components.
  • Contribute to design-for-manufacturing (DFM), design-for-assembly (DFA), and design-for-test (DFT) efforts, ensuring scalable and cost-effective production.
  • Perform complex tolerance analyses to ensure manufacturability and performance of precision assemblies of optical parts.
  • Work collaboratively with cross functional internal teams, as well as contract manufacturers in Asia to support camera and lens module builds, testing, and quality assurance.
  • Write test plans, analyze build and test data, generate visualizations, and drive actionable decisions based on statistical insights.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Opto-Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in opto-mechanical product development, including but not limited to Camera Systems, AR/VR, LIDAR, Waveguides, Wearable Optics.
  • Proficient in Siemens NX (or other CAD tool) for 3D CAD design and 2D drafting and the design skills to get to a manufacturable design (TA, DFM, GD&T).
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to optical systems: injection molding, CNC machining, die casting, MIM, die cutting, lens molding, and glass grinding/polishing.
  • Experience with PCB integration in opto-mechanical assemblies.
  • Familiarity with optical component alignment methodologies, including active alignment systems.
  • Ability to work well with other humans; and travel periodically as needed for the project.
  • Ability to analyze and present statistical data using Python, MATLAB, or other tool for data plotting and analysis, automation scripts, productivity enhancement, and generally building tools to help us work faster.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), performing your own thermal/structural modeling as well as collaborating with other FEA engineers on their analysis.
  • Experience with Zemax OpticStudio, performing your own system level tolerance and performance modeling and/or working with Optical Engineers on their analysis.
