About The Position

SectionStar by Clarapath is a ground- breaking electro-mechanical system designed to elevate and automate the workflow in histology laboratories and provide pathologists with the tissue samples they need to make the most accurate diagnoses. Through the use of innovative technology, data, and precision analytics, Clarapath is paving the way for a new era of laboratory medicine. Role Summary : The Senior Optical Engineer will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimizing Clarapaths optical systems, ensuring the high-performance integration of optics into SectionStar, our advanced electro-mechanical device. This role requires a strong foundation in optical design, photonics, and precision engineering, as well as hands-on experience with testing and troubleshooting optical systems. Working closely with a cross-disciplinary team of engineers, this individual will support product development from concept through production while contributing to optical system optimization, quality assurance, and workflow improvements that enhance performance and scalability. We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented team player who thrives in a fast-paced, rapidly growing environment and is eager to apply optical engineering principles to real-world, cutting-edge product challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Proven experience in optical design, lens systems, imaging, or photonics applications.
  • Proficiency with optical design and simulation software (ex: Zemax, Code V, LightTools)
  • Hands-on experience with optical testing equipment and metrology
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electro-mechanical device integration, a plus
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and production processes for optical components, a plus
  • Leadership experience or mentoring junior engineers, a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, and analyze optical systems and components for performance and reliability
  • Integrate optical solutions into electro-mechanical devices, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers
  • Perform optical testing, validation, and troubleshooting to meet design specifications
  • Contribute to process improvements, quality assurance, and workflow optimization for optical systems
  • Document design processes, test results, and maintain accurate engineering records.
  • Stay current with emerging optical technologies and industry trends
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance within the team
