About The Position

The Senior Optical Engineer will play a crucial role in developing complex optical systems for consumer electronics. This position involves collaboration with a skilled Optical Engineering team to design, implement, and verify optical components and systems, utilizing advanced optical simulation techniques and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Optical Engineering, Bachelor of Arts in Physics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent academics with a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of optical manufacturing processes and production issues.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in setting schedules and completing tasks.
  • Proficiency with complex optical components and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Complete complex simulations/analysis on optical systems incorporating various surface/object types.
  • Expert user of optical simulation software tools and able to complete difficult tasks.
  • Specify test plans to validate complex systems with performance requirements.
  • Mentor and guide peers in proper optical test equipment utilization.
  • Direct and coordinate the manufacture of moderately complex optical prototypes.
  • Serve as Optical Engineering project lead for a single project, providing oversight and technical direction.
  • Negotiate with cross-functional teams to develop robust optical designs considering tolerances and constraints.
  • Collaborate in design reviews, providing comments on optical design aspects.
  • Provide technical input to product development plans and concept documents.
  • Estimate complex optical designs including tooling, part cost, and design time.
  • Effectively communicate optical requirements to external vendors and negotiate performance and cost.
  • Expert user of optical test equipment for tolerance alignment in optical systems.
  • Contribute to project goal/objectives determination.
  • Mentor less experienced Optical Engineers.
  • Contribute to advanced technical research on new technologies.
  • Independently determine approaches and solutions to technical problems.
  • Offer process improvement suggestions and author new procedures as appropriate.
  • Interpret industry qualifications to determine relevance and impact on product design.
  • Provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
