As a Senior Operations Engineer (Data and Network) , you will play a critical role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of a large-scale electronic medical record system for a major federation. Your responsibilities will include monitoring and analyzing network traffic across the Client WAN and Medical Centers, identifying abnormal patterns, and generating detailed reports using tools like NetScout. You will validate and monitor both Windows and Linux operating system logs, ensuring compliance with Client encryption standards and security protocols. Additionally, you will oversee system upgrades and patching, verifying configurations on Linux servers and ensuring successful patching of Windows 2012 and 2016 systems. Your expertise will be essential optimizing network redundancy through NIC teaming, analyzing Windows Clustering for high availability, and ensuring systems connected to Storage Area Networks are configured for redundancy and performance. In this role, you will conduct quality assurance on critical systems, including 36 instances of Red Hat Linux and the VX130 Shadow Systems, ensuring they meet authentication and security requirements. You will validate Linux authentication with Centrify Software for PIV card integration and ensure systems are properly integrated into monitoring tools like SCOM and SolarWinds. Your work will involve daily reviews of event logs, cluster statuses, and notifications, as well as preparing and updating POAMs to address vulnerabilities identified by Nessus and Penetration Scans. You will also analyze and recommend server hardening measures in alignment with Client STIG guidelines, ensuring all physical and virtual server builds meet stringent specifications. Additionally, you will oversee the compliance sFTP systems and group/local policies with Client security requirements. To excel in this position, you should have a strong background in network traffic analysis, system performance optimization, and server configuration. Familiarity with tools such as NetScout, SCOM, SolarWinds, and Nessus will be invaluable, as will experience with Linux and Windows server environments. Your ability to troubleshoot and provide recommendations for system optimization, coupled with your knowledge of Client security standards, will be key to your success. This role offers the flexibility of virtual work, though it is based in Washington, DC, and involves both implementation and sustainment of live systems. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and security of a critical healthcare system, ensuring it operates seamlessly for end users.

Requirements

  • Review LAN traffic in AITC and Client WAN traffic to Medical Centers to identify abnormal behaviors in traffic patterns.
  • Develop reports using NetScout and other monitoring tools for bandwidth, latency, and application-specific messages.
  • Review message logs to ensure all packets are encrypted.
  • Validate and monitor Operating System logs for both Windows and Linux.
  • Validate configuration on Linux servers after system upgrades and patching.
  • Validate successful patching of Windows 2012 and 2016 systems, including installation of applications, configuration of Roles, Features, policies, and settings to ensure compliance with Client requirements.
  • Analyze systems attached to a Storage Area Network to ensure they are configured with Multipath IO Policy for redundancy and optimized performance.
  • Review NIC teaming configuration for network redundancy and recommend updates to optimize throughput and performance.
  • Analyze Windows Clustering for High Availability and recommend resource allocation to maintain application requirements.
  • Conduct quality assurance on 36 instances of Red Hat Linux (VX130 Shadow Systems).
  • Validate Linux authentication with Centrify Software to Windows Domain Controller, including support for PIV card authentication.
  • Validate systems added to monitoring tools (SCOM and SolarWinds).
  • Support troubleshooting events and provide recommendations to optimize server performance.
  • Perform daily reviews of event logs, cluster statuses, and notifications.
  • Prepare and update POAMs to address vulnerabilities identified by Nessus and Penetration Scans monthly in compliance with ATO and ATC.
  • Analyze and provide recommendations to harden servers per Client STIG guidelines.
  • Review physical and virtual server builds to ensure they meet specifications.
  • Conduct quality assurance on sFTP systems to ensure compliance with ATO/ATC requirements for Client systems using the Client MedCOI network
  • Conduct quality assurance on group policies/local policies required by AITC/Client security entities.
