About The Position

Join our not-for-profit organization that has provided over 100 years of housing and services to seniors with a commitment to quality care and service in a Christian environment. The Good Samaritan Society - Canistota is a 55 bed facility that provides rehabilitation and senior living, conveniently located 30 minutes from Sioux Falls. This is a full-time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) opening on the evening shift from 2pm to 10:30pm. The position requires every other weekend and holiday work, and offers a $2,500 sign-on bonus.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Two years' clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Satisfactorily complete yearly department specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits.
  • A minimum of 12 hours continuing education required annually.
  • May be required to complete the Restorative Nursing training within 6 months.
  • For applicable states, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
  • May classify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an experienced caregiver to residents during scheduled work periods in long-term care.
  • Provide resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN).
  • Deliver age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of residents as per care plan.
  • Assist with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs.
  • Provide psychosocial support and personal care to assigned residents.
  • Assist residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment.
  • Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience.
  • Document resident interactions and outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and dietary.
  • Communicate residents' changing conditions and care-related concerns to the charge nurse.
  • Provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents in keeping living areas clean.
  • Encourage residents to participate in wellness and recreational programs.
  • May participate in departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed.
