About The Position

Xcel Energy is hiring a Nuclear Regulatory Engineer to be based out of downtown Minneapolis, MN. The Regulatory Engineer provides regulatory support as assigned to ensure the nuclear power plant complies with the UFSAR, technical specifications, and other regulatory requirements and commitments. This highly visible position involves communicating with all levels of the organization and problem solving on a wide variety of subjects. The successful candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • 8+ years of Engineering experience.
  • For training and development purposes, assignments may include some work that is typical of a higher level.
  • Periodic travel may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • SRO License or Certification desired or demonstrated operational experience in lieu of license or certification.
  • Previous work experience in nuclear compliance or licensing highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates communications with the NRC; coordinates and conducts management and technical meetings
  • Prepare licensing actions such as; Notice of Enforcement Discretion (NOED), technical specification changes, license amendments, code relief requests, exemptions.
  • Facilitate inspection preparations, coordination and conduct; coordinates communications with the NRC before, during and after inspections; communicates regulatory vulnerabilities to Fleet and Site management teams; supports development and implementation of regulatory strategy for inspections in conjunction with Fleet Regulatory management.
  • Prepares regulatory correspondence including letters, Licensee Event Reports, and requests for information, to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Researches and develops licensing basis regulatory positions from available information such as historical regulatory correspondence in conjunction with Fleet Regulatory management.
  • Maintains awareness of plant operational status and events for consideration of compliance and reportability concerns as well as licensing action needs; communicates with management as necessary.
  • Supports ongoing operations at the nuclear sites and is jointly accountable with site personnel for the sites meeting their excellence plans.
  • Interfaces with Fleet and Site management teams as required supporting the vision and mission of NSPM.
