The Sr. Network Engineer's primary job responsibility is to work closely with the other members of the Infrastructure and Operations teams to assess network connectivity requirements and implement standard (and sometimes bespoke) network solutions and maintain state of good repair. These network services include but are not limited to core, distribution, access, WAN and edge layer routers and switches, Next-Gen Firewalls, and Application/Server Load Balancers at NYP’s campuses and data centers.

  • Provide technical leadership on large service projects that require network services.
  • Create configuration files and templates for network switches and routers.
  • Create cable matrix and deployment runbooks.
  • Assemble and rack mount network hardware.
  • Automate provisioning and onboarding of services.
  • Create new VLANs, configure new interfaces, configure routing and switching protocols, configure Access Control Lists.
  • Determine and predict impact of any assigned network moves, additions, changes, and decommissions.
  • Work on configuration tasks aimed at standardizing switch and router configuration settings per hardware and software platform.
  • Effectively communicate status, issues, and risks to implementation schedules.
  • Work with NYP vendors.
  • Be flexible with frequent off-hour deployment schedules (early mornings, late nights, weekends).
  • Be able to lift and move heavy network equipment.
  • BSCS/EE or equivalent work experience required.
  • Five (5) to Seven (7) + years support experience for network infrastructure products.
  • Thorough working knowledge of OSI model and the interaction between the layers.
  • Advanced expertise with TCP/IP networking concepts.
  • Knowledge of authentication protocols (including RADIUS and LDAP), and Network Management Systems (EMS/NMS) is required.
  • CCNP-level mastery of BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, STP, TCP, UDP, NAT, HSRP/VRRP, VRF, QoS, Ethernet, Inter- and Intra-domain multicast is essential.
  • Experience working with Cisco, Arista, and HP networking products as well as solid experience with packet tracing/sniffing tools.
  • Strong work ethic, 'can-do/will do' attitude.
  • Palo Alto NGFW (all models) design and support experience.
  • F5 LTM/GTM Administration and irule configuration.
  • Scripting skills in languages such as Python/Ansible for network administration and automation purposes.
