About The Position

USNH is seeking a senior network engineer based out of the Plymouth State Campus to design, configure, troubleshoot and maintain all LAN systems from the core to the edge, including wireless. The senior network engineer is a leader and expert in designing, implementing, and maintaining the network infrastructure of the University System, including LAN, WAN, wireless, security, and cloud technologies. The senior network engineer has experience with LAN and WAN technologies including firewall security devices and policies. Vendors include Ciena, Juniper, Arista, Palo Alto, Aruba and Brocade. The senior network engineer also has strong knowledge of automation tools and technologies for network configuration, management, testing, and deployment. The senior network engineer mentors’ other IT staff, manages network projects, and ensures alignment of network solutions with business goals and requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree and four years, or 8 years of experience operating and running an enterprise level network.
  • Experience with cloud computing environments such as IaaS and SaaS preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of LAN and WAN technologies such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, MPLS, VPNs, QoS, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of network security devices and protocols such as firewalls, IPS/IDS, encryption, authentication, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFID, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the design and configuration of network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, AWS connections.
  • Plan and execute network installation and upgrade projects.
  • Maintain networks throughout USNH.
  • Install, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise and wide area network systems, including firewall (Palo Alto) administration, switch administration (Juniper, HPE/Aruba, Arista), and Wireless networking (Aruba), Juniper MX and QFX routers and switches, and Ciena carrier ethernet.
  • Perform physical cabling as needed.
  • Manage physical connection data (Pinnacle-Summit).
  • Implement and enforce network security policies and best practices.
  • Support network users and applications.
  • Research and evaluate new network technologies and solutions.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams and vendors on network projects and initiatives.
  • Mentor and train other network engineers and technicians.
  • Travel to various customer and USNH sites for equipment installations and maintenance required.
  • Perform network maintenance and optimization tasks such as backups, updates, patches, audits, and documentation.
  • Install and upgrade network equipment and software.
  • Automate network configuration, management, testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, backup, recovery, security, optimization tasks using scripting tools such as Bash, Python, PowerShell, etc.
  • Facilitate the programming and development of tools for supporting the networking environments.
  • Work with the networking development team to design, build, and test tools for network administrators and users.
  • Identify development needs.
  • Evaluate the performance and benefits of network automation solutions using metrics such as time savings, cost savings, error reduction, compliance improvement, etc.
  • Coordinate with user communities, on where development may improve user experience and security.
  • Train other network engineers and technicians on how to use network automation tools and technologies.
  • Work with various research and USNH groups regarding AWS setup and networking.
  • Advisory role to datacenter security and design concepts regarding NSX-T and VMWARE technologies.
