About The Position

VDOT is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer (Sr NE) to implement and provide support to the agency’s IT Network infrastructure. The Sr NE performs day-to-day activities related to the support, documentation, research, analysis, and implementation of VDOT Network related infrastructure. Candidate must have in-depth, considerable knowledge and hands-on experience understanding, documenting, and maintaining Network related infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge and hands-on working experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless access points, and load balancers (including the ability to setup, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot) - 8+ Years
  • Demonstrated and hands-on ability to design, install and troubleshoot local-area and wide-area enterprise networks - 8+ Years
  • Considerable direct hands-on experience engineering and design experience in networking industry required - 8+ Years
  • Industry standard networking certification (example: Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA- Junos, etc.) - N/A
  • In-depth experience designing installing and troubleshooting local-area and wide-area enterprise networks - 8+ Years
  • Experience monitoring IT environments for compliance with information security, architecture policies, and standards - 8+ Years
  • Experience creating repeatable, reliable, scalable network architectures with fault tolerance - 8+ Years
  • Experience performance tuning, monitoring systems, statistics/metrics collection, and disaster recovery - 8+ Years
  • Experience creating network diagrams using industry standard tools such as Visio, etc. - 8+ Years
  • Experience with networking features and protocols such as: ARP, CDP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, Etherchannel, 802.1Q trunking, HSRP, QoS, multicast, IPsec, RADIUS/TACACS+, SNMP, BRI/PRI, MPLS - 8+ Years

  • Experience working with SDWAN - 3+ Years
  • Experience working with network topology related to Cloud - 3+ Years

Responsibilities

  • Considerable knowledge and working experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless access points, and load balancers (including the ability to document, set up, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot)
  • Be capable of troubleshooting Network related infrastructure.
  • Identifies and diagnoses system problems by using line monitors, diagnostic software, test equipment.
  • Works closely with agency’s IT infrastructure suppliers and stakeholders to gather requirements, specifications, and configurations to assure they are accurate and up to date.
  • Responsible for assisting in troubleshooting and resolving network issues impacting application performance and uptime.
  • Assist in overseeing the installation, documentation, and upgrades of various agency facility data network infrastructure.
  • Will oversee and collaborate with cloud and DevSecOps teams to optimize hybrid connectivity and SDWAN configurations.
  • Must have the ability to provide documentation, network architecture topology diagrams, IP schemes, firewall rules, and access controls when required.
  • Must have the ability to work independently on assigned projects.
