This individual independently plans, performs the moderately-defined responsibility for the design and development of technologies related to the generation or manipulation of content targeted at the human senses or machine perception. These technologies include speech, audio, imaging, computer vision, display, sensing, biometrics, optics, color science, computer graphics, and augmented/virtual reality. Analyzes use cases related to multimedia/graphics technologies and performs functional decomposition to drive requirements for implementation into hardware or software. Performs system analysis and uses simulation modeling to propose algorithmic or system modifications that enable optimization of performance, latency, and power. Designs systems-level software and hardware to design multimedia/graphics functionality under some supervision; identifies power constraints and potential tradeoffs and makes recommendations to resolve issues and produce innovation solutions. Optimizes multimedia/graphics system quality based on known models of optical acuity and human perception. Applies expertise in optics, color sciences, and graphics to map multimedia algo designs to real world performance requirements. Contributes to discussion of design reviews for subsystem development; defines design constraints for a specific project; identifies solutions to meet design targets. Collaborates with peers to design products that meet internal and/or external customer requirements and standards. Develops test environment and test cases to verify the design of a well-defined component; works with peers to evaluate the impact of results and validate software and hardware against specifications; helps to define the test plan to collect data on accuracy, reliability, performance, power, and robustness of design; organizes and plots the data to draw conclusions and present findings. Uses appropriate tools to conduct common analyses of software or hardware design. Programs an aspect of a chip (i.e., feature) under some supervision; creates new and tailors existing algorithms according to a framework. Distills lessons learned from multimedia/graphics algo work to inform chipset design roadmap. Completes complex tasks and solves issues related to the engineering and management of machine learning data with minimal guidance from more experienced engineers. Develops or adapts complex machine learning algorithms, models, or frameworks aligned with product proposals or roadmaps with minimal guidance from more experienced engineers. Conducts complex experiments to train and evaluate machine learning models independently. Contributes to technical conversations and documentation (e.g., white papers, schematics, FDD, HLDR); escalates complex technical issues to an appropriate contact (e.g., project lead, colleagues). Acts as a strong contributor at design reviews and project meetings.
