Summary: Reporting to the Director of Retail Lending, the Senior Mortgage Loan Originator plays a key role in helping members achieve homeownership by providing expert guidance and personalized mortgage solutions. This position focuses on delivering an exceptional member experience through education, community involvement, and a deep understanding of the local market.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field or equivalent work experience in mortgage lending, real estate finance, or a related field may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5-10 years of experience in mortgage lending, with a proven history of successful loan origination and member service.
  • Must meet all requirements under the SAFE Act, including eligibility for licensing and registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS).
  • Strong understanding of conventional and government mortgage products, secondary market guidelines, and lending regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with members and referral partners.
  • Proficiency in mortgage loan origination systems (LOS), digital lending tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High degree of professionalism, discretion, and integrity when handling confidential member information.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with members to assess mortgage needs, provide product recommendations, and guide them through the application process, ensuring clarity and transparency.
  • Understanding of secondary market principles, loan sale readiness, and delivery standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret credit reports, DU/LP findings, income documentation, and collateral evaluations.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable mortgage lending regulations including but not limited to: Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (SAFE Act).
  • Consistently meet or exceed individual loan production goals, while maintaining high-quality documentation and member service standards.
  • Collect and review all necessary documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness to facilitate efficient underwriting and closing processes.
  • Assemble, document, and maintain accurate and complete loan files, including approvals, denials, and returned applications.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with members, provide ongoing support and identifying opportunities for additional financial services that align with their needs.
  • Proactively build and maintain referral relationships with realtors, builders, and other community partners to generate qualified mortgage leads.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and new mortgage products to provide members with the most current and beneficial options.
