About The Position

The Mining Operations Planning & Budgeting Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the long-range planning and operational strategy of the mine. This role partners closely with Operations, Finance, and Technical Services teams to develop accurate departmental budgets, workforce plans, and capital project submissions (AFE). The ideal candidate brings a solid understanding of mining operations, strong analytical skills, and the ability to translate operational priorities into executable, cost-effective plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, , or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mining operations (open pit).
  • Proven experience in operational planning, budgeting, or cost control.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to interpret operational data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and planning tools.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with practical execution ability.
  • Strong collaborator able to influence across departments.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Proactive problem solver with strong analytical capability.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems.
  • Financial planning, budgeting or costing experience.
  • Exposure to mine planning software (Deswik, MineSight, Vulcan).
  • Familiarity with U.S. mining regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Support development of forecast, budget, and life of mine year operational plans, integrating production targets, equipment strategy, workforce forecasts, and capital investments.
  • Partner with mine planning, maintenance, and processing teams to ensure operational assumptions and plans are aligned and achievable.
  • Conduct scenario modelling to assess impacts of operational changes on production and cost forecasts.
  • Develop annual operating budgets for the Operations department.
  • Maintain rolling forecasts and update cost models.
  • Develop and maintain workforce plans and monitor headcount.
  • Partner with HR and department leaders to identify future staffing requirements.
  • Prepare and submit AFEs for sustaining and growth capital projects.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement in budgeting and forecasting cycles.
  • Contribute to special projects that drive efficiency and cost control.
