About The Position

The NYS HELPS (Hiring for Emergency Limited placement Program Statewide) is a NYS program that allows civil service agencies to hire qualified permanent employees quickly and without requiring them to take a competitive civil service exam. It was created to help agencies fill critical vacancies by streamlining the appointment process, though candidates must still meet all other minimum qualifications for the job. 40 hours/week 8:ooam - 4:30 (Inclusive of 1/2 hour unpaid lunch) 12 months per school year DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES : Contributes to the successful implementation of the District's Technology Plan. Manages District Office Inventory. Works with other Technicians on building inventory and coordinates roll outs of new Resolves hardware and software problems with end users both remotely and on- Provides support documentation for team members and training. Manage and track assigned work orders, documenting actions taken and resolutions in the District's work order system. Provides support to field service technicians when necessary Takes initiative to identify and present creative solutions for department needs Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience with the following technologies and platforms: Virtual Server Infrastructure: Administration and support of VMware environments, including backup, replication, and recovery using latest enterprise products. Endpoint Management: Management and deployment of devices using Jamf and Microsoft lntune across multiple operating systems. Identity & Access Management: Configuration and administration of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Google Workspace, and on-premises Active Directory environments. Server Hardware: Installation, configuration, and maintenance of Dell server hardware in enterprise or data center environments. Additional experience in the following areas will be considered: Knowledge of enterprise networking concepts, including switching, routing, VLANs, firewalls, and wireless networking Experience with network hardware configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting Understanding of network security best practices and traffic segmentation Familiarity with troubleshooting connectivity issues across LAN, WAN, and cloud-based environments Communicates clearly. Ability to work well with Possesses logical reasoning and sound Shows initiative and Physical condition is commensurate with the demands of the position. Good organizational Self-directed. Flexible and willingness to keep up with and learn changes in technology and standard CIVIL SERVICE JOB DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS The work involves performing more complex specialized work in the design, development and implementation of computer applications and local area network operating systems in a suburban school district. Expertise is required in installing, customizing and maintaining vendor supplied operating systems and application software for Local Area Networks. Knowledge is also required for dial-up communications and supported communications software packages. Direct supervision is received from an Information Services Administrator of higher rank with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Incumbent may act as a team leader and supervise a small team of technical support staff when required. Does related work as required.

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years of experience in data processing which included at least one (1) year of experience in programming and /or maintenance of vendor supplied operating software and one (1) year of experience in the installation and maintenance of LAN operating systems; or:
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) or four (4) year college or university with an Associate's Degree in Data Processing, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field and five (5) years of experience in data processing which included at least one (1) year of experience in programming and /or maintenance of vendor supplied operating software, and one (1) year of experience in the installation and maintenance of LAN operating systems; or:
  • Graduation from a high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and seven (7) years of experience in data processing which included at least one (1) year of experience in programming and /or maintenance of vendor supplied operating software, and one (1) year of experience in the installation and maintenance of LAN operating systems; or:
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C).
