Requirements

  • Equal to a Bachelor's degree (B. A.) with a course concentration in Medical Technology.
  • ASCP registered in Medical Technology.
  • M.T. (HEW) certification is acceptable.
  • Five (5) years experience as a MT.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general direction and assistance in the administration of the day to day activities for the laboratory including\: organization of workflow, review pending logs, quality control, and technical problem solving and data collection.
  • Maintain close communication with the supervisors regarding activities within a given area including appraisal of personnel, operational needs, and compliance with safety policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date procedure manuals that are constantly available for use and review.
  • In consultations with Pathologist and supervisors, recommend and assist with selecting and developing all tests performed within the laboratory.
  • Assist in work performed by M.L.T; L.S.T’s.; orientation and training of all new personnel; training of students, and instruction to non-technical personnel.
  • Perform related general laboratory functions as may be required during regular, evenings, weekend, holiday or call hours as assigned.
  • Must be courteous to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and other employees of the organization.
  • Responsible for assigned areas of laboratory activities.
  • Record, file, and check all laboratory results and effectively communicate as soon as possible all required results to appropriate personnel. Insure proper reporting of all charges and data-processing copies. Complete periodic proficiency survey tests and record required reports. Maintain confidentiality of all patient reports and distribute to those authorized.
  • Interact with public, patients, and other professionals in a discrete, polite, and professional manner.
  • Prepare and set-up equipment for various tests, ensure proper calibration of equipment.
  • Operate within established control parameters for all laboratory tests.
  • Ensure constant documentation and retention of all quality control data.
  • Perform and record daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks on all laboratory equipment.
  • Practice efficient economical use of laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Ensure adequate availability of required supplies and reagents and communicate to appropriate supervisory personnel when necessary.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in the field of clinical laboratory science, including procedures, techniques, equipment and computers.
  • Has ability to learn and perform new procedures established in the clinical laboratory.
  • Maintain work area in a neat, clean and orderly condition at all times.
  • Perform related laboratory functions as may be required.
