The Clinical Microbiology Lab Supervisor must have at least 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting. Preferred 1 year of supervisory experience. Preferred bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution and hold a] current LSBME License as a Generalist The Clinical Microbiology Lab Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations of the clinical microbiology laboratory. This role includes: Supervising a team of clinical microbiology technologists or technicians performing microbiology-based procedures. Providing technical support and assistance as needed to maintain department operations. Executing protocols for verification and validation of tests. Maintaining QA/QC compliance for all tests performed. Carrying out CAP and proficiency survey specimens assignments, review of results and action needed. Ensuring laboratory equipment is maintained in proper working order and following safety protocols. Troubleshooting and resolving technical problems to ensure test systems meet established performance specifications. Providing ongoing performance feedback to staff through coaching, performance review, and counseling. Assuring sufficient inventory is available for anticipated test volumes. Overseeing the ordering and inventory management of the microbiology department supplies. Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding microbiology lab results and procedures. Ensure there is adequate staffing for the microbiology department. Performing other duties as required by the department.
