About The Position

ORIC Pharmaceuticals is seeking an experienced Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr MSL) with relevant scientific, clinical, and therapeutic area expertise across prostate cancer, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and potentially other tumor types. Reporting to the Head of Medical Affairs, this individual will be responsible for externally representing ORIC and providing medical expertise on ORIC assets in development. The Sr MSL is an extremely valuable member of the Medical Affairs team who will be expected to engage in highly credible scientific exchange with targeted key opinion leaders (KOLs), clinical trial investigators, access stakeholders, and other healthcare professionals. The Sr MSL will not only support medical information, congress activities, and advisory boards but also will support data generation activities and will actively generate medical insights for strategic planning purposes, as well as drive clinical trial enrollment in key company studies. The ideal candidate will have background experience in biotech/biopharma, during both pre-launch and post-launch product phases, is an experienced and collaborative team player, highly effective communicator, entrepreneurial, solutions-oriented, proactive, and scientifically driven. These are field-based positions covering large eastern, central, and western US geographies. Candidates for the eastern regional position must live within the geography with preference for candidates in New York City (or upstate), Newark, Philadelphia, Boston, or Washington DC. Candidates must live within 40 miles of a major airport. Candidates for the central region must live within the geography with preference for candidates in Chicago, Indianapolis, Detroit, Minneapolis, Dallas, or Houston. Candidates must live within 40 miles of a major airport. Candidates for the western region must live within the geography with preference for candidates in San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, or Portland. Candidates must live within 40 miles of a major airport.

Requirements

  • Doctorate (MD, PhD, DNP, or PharmD) in a health science or clinical discipline strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of previous MSL experience desired
  • Must have a strong scientific background in oncology with deep understanding of biomarker-driven disease and ability to effectively analyze, synthesize, and communicate complex scientific information.
  • Strong networking skills with deep existing relationships and network with oncology healthcare professionals including local, regional, and global key opinion leaders.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific data to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities at one time with little direction and drive results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to travel to attend scientific congresses, trial-related meetings, and key stakeholder meetings (domestic and some international) - 50%-75% travel.
  • Manage and adhere to ORIC policies, ensuring compliance with corporate rules and government regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Deeply understand the unique oncology treatment paradigm, key stakeholders, and healthcare landscape within the MSL's designated geographic coverage area (regionally and/or locally) and within assigned institutions and KOLs
  • Define the strategic near and long-term medical strategy to be used in the assigned territory, incorporating opportunities for collaboration, communication, and education related to scientific/clinical data and new research, driving clinical trial enrollment, value topics, care pathways, etc; Sr MSL is responsible for driving execution of this medical strategy at a regional/local/institutional level
  • Identify and engage key KOLs, healthcare professionals (HCPs), and investigators in scientific exchange on disease landscape & ORIC assets/clinical trials
  • Identify pre-clinical, clinical and post-marketing study investigators in alignment with Clinical Development and provide valuable and timely scientific support to the investigators
  • Serve as a key member of the Medical Affairs team to share actionable insights/learnings to help inform and develop medical strategy
  • Participate/lead other potential medical activities (i.e., congress planning, data coverage, and logistics, study lead, etc) depending on prior experience or developmental interests
  • Collaborate with other cross-functional internal team members (i.e., Clinical Operations, Clinical Development, Commercial, etc) to share regional/local insights/learnings and contribute to respective strategies
  • Respond to external inquiries and deliver appropriate clinical and scientific information
  • Represent ORIC at select scientific congresses and professional society meetings
  • Participate in the review, approval, and support of investigator-sponsored studies
  • Sr MSL is expected to hold more visible leadership roles and be able to influence others (without direct authority), carry additional complex projects that are strategic in nature, and facilitate the accomplishment of initiatives outside those standard activities supported by the team
  • Sr MSL serves as a role model with additional accountability for mentoring and training other MSLs and Medical Affairs colleagues, as well as serve as a resource for commercial and other cross-functional colleagues
