About The Position

Join Collins Aerospace as a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer and play a key role in designing and delivering complex mechanical solutions that power critical aerospace, defense, and maritime systems. In this highly integrated role, you won’t just focus on one piece of the puzzle—you’ll operate across the full engineering lifecycle, translating requirements into real-world hardware through a combination of design, analysis, and system-level thinking. From early concept development through production and sustainment, your work will directly influence the performance, reliability, and success of mission-critical technologies. This is an opportunity to step into a hands-on environment with broad technical scope, where you’ll collaborate across engineering disciplines to solve complex challenges. Whether you’re developing electro-mechanical assemblies, performing multi-physics analysis, or shaping system architecture and packaging, you’ll be at the center of turning ideas into executable, high-impact solutions. If you’re someone who thrives in bridging design and analysis, enjoys working in evolving problem spaces, and wants to contribute to advanced systems that operate in demanding environments, this role offers both the scope and visibility to make a meaningful impact.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience in two or more of the following areas: mechanical design across the full product lifecycle (concept through production); multi-disciplinary engineering analysis (FEA, thermal, fluid, or system-level modeling); and system integration and packaging of electro-mechanical systems
  • Prior experience using NX or a comparable CAD tool (minimum 3 years)
  • Prior experience using PLM systems such as Teamcenter or equivalent (minimum 3 years)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in defense, aerospace, or maritime/undersea systems
  • Experience performing trade studies, concept evaluations, or early-phase engineering development
  • Experience integrating design and analysis into cohesive system solutions
  • Familiarity with AS9100, configuration management, and design release processes
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

Responsibilities

  • Execute integrated mechanical design and analysis activities, ensuring alignment across functional and performance requirements, physical architecture and packaging constraints, and manufacturability, reliability, and lifecycle considerations
  • Develop and mature concepts, layouts, and detailed designs for mechanical systems and components, including rotating machinery, actuation systems, mechanical control elements, electro-mechanical assemblies, and electronics packaging, with exposure to maritime and undersea systems as applicable
  • Perform and support multi-disciplinary analysis (structural, thermal, vibration, fluid, and system-level modeling), including generating loads, defining boundary conditions, building models, and correlating analytical results with test data and field performance
  • Translate system requirements into physical architectures and executable design solutions, including space claim definition, system layout, interface definition, and cross-domain integration across mechanical and electrical systems, supported by early-stage trade studies and concept evaluations
  • Support early-phase engineering efforts through concept definition, feasibility assessments, development of preliminary models and layouts, and providing engineering inputs to scope, cost, and schedule planning
  • Develop and maintain complete technical data packages, including 3D models, drawings, specifications, and analysis artifacts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and configuration control
  • Define and execute development, qualification, and acceptance testing, ensuring alignment with system requirements and validation of analytical predictions
  • Implement design changes across the product lifecycle while maintaining configuration control, traceability, and alignment with program objectives
  • Support supplier engagement through technical coordination, component qualification, and resolution of design, manufacturing, or performance-related issues
  • Participate in or lead root cause and corrective action investigations (RRCCA), integrating insights from design, analysis, manufacturing, and field data to drive resolution and continuous improvement
