About The Position

Merrick & Company is looking for a Senior Mechanical Equipment Designer to join a team of engineering and design personnel serving the Nuclear Services & Technology Business Unit in our Albuquerque, NM or Los Alamos, NM. This group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. This is a full-time position. This position is a collaboration role working with a small team of designers. The senior designer works directly with the team to produce 3D models, drawings, and fabrication packages of custom equipment, independently and with direction from the project engineer. Typical equipment includes containment systems (gloveboxes, hot cells, cleanrooms), material handling equipment, small scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines) and pressure vessels. Pay range for this position is $40.25 - $52.00 per hour. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in related field.
  • Must demonstrate expert proficiency with Creo (Pro/E) and Windchill.
  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated capability in the design of custom equipment and/or containment systems, development of design documentation including fabrication drawings, equipment datasheets and design record documents.
  • Must have the ability to acquire a security clearance.
  • The client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the DOE and DOD market segments.
  • Familiarity with other 3D systems (CATIA, SolidWorks or equal), 2D software (AutoCAD preferred) and Autodesk Revit.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of component, subassembly, and main assembly Creo (Pro/E) models
  • Creating detailed fabrication drawing packages
  • Evaluating and selecting purchased components
  • Creating detailed Bills of Materials and completing equipment datasheets
  • Establishes model structure and drawing tree architecture for distinct deliverables and is responsible for establishing and maintaining file naming conventions and Windchill folders
  • Directs the activities of less experienced team members to produce final product
  • Provides checking support for deliverables
  • Holding team meetings and instructional presentations
  • Developing best practices in CAD usage
  • Mentoring, coaching, and conducting performance reviews for team members
