Requirements

  • BA/BS + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • PE license in Mechanical Engineering, with the ability to obtain licensure in additional U.S. states.

Nice To Haves

  • PE License in Massachusetts preferred.
  • 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • 5+ years of HVAC or mechanical team leadership experience.
  • 2+ years in an engineering lead or design management role.
  • Affinity for business development.
  • Experience with aviation sector projects.
  • Strong background in sustainable and high-performance building design.
  • Familiarity with central utility plant systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage AECOM’s building engineering operations in Boston, with an emphasis on team growth and performance.
  • Oversee and grow the Mechanical (HVAC) department, including mentoring staff and managing project delivery.
  • Develop and execute a strategy to add electrical and plumbing engineering staff to build a thriving local MEP team.
  • Drive major project pursuits — both stand-alone MEP/FP work and as part of larger multi-discipline teams.
  • Collaborate with other AECOM offices and business lines to optimize project staffing and delivery.
  • Oversee HVAC design across a range of project sizes and complexities.
  • Act as technical leader and quality reviewer, ensuring consistent, high-caliber output.
  • Serve as design manager on complex projects with significant engineering scope working closely with project managers to deliver high quality documents.
  • Lead interdisciplinary coordination/quality reviews and ensure engineering standards are met.
  • Guide team members in their work, assigning tasks and supporting their professional development.
  • Manage forecasting, resource planning, and staff performance, including goal-setting and annual reviews for mechanical department. Assist the electrical department manager to do the same.
  • Represent AECOM to clients, participate in interviews, and help craft winning proposals.
  • Stay current with the latest trends, tools, and best practices in high-performance mechanical design.
