This role is part of the Mechanical Engineering organization at Chamberlain Group. This role is responsible for leading the development of large-sized electro-mechanical assemblies and products. This role will be involved with design decisions from concept through production. Collaboration with other areas of a cross functional team, such as marketing and manufacturing, throughout a product life cycle is required. Requirements include interacting with senior management, creation and coordination of development schedule, implementation process, and execution of that process.

  • Design, prototype, and test electro-mechanical assemblies using principles and knowledge of power transmission, strengths of materials, statics, dynamics, and material science.
  • Develop Industrial Designs that meet cost, timing, and customer requirements by collaborating with Industrial Design team and Tooling Engineers.
  • Meet project scope, specifications, and any regulatory requirements that are applicable to the product being developed, while developing internal standards and improving processes.
  • Conduct meetings, including project status, product demos, and design review meetings.
  • Act as a mechanical lead and have responsibility for the execution of work within the project parameters.
  • Verify individual parts factor of safety by performing calculations for stress/strain, FEA's, and assembly tolerance studies.
  • Assure product quality by conducting DFMEA's and leading the completion of tolerance analysis studies for parts and assemblies.
  • Review and approve test plans and participate in the development of new test procedures.
  • Lead failure analysis and problem-solving tactics by performing functional and reliability bench testing and Six Sigma design practices.
  • Conduct peer reviews for product design and act as a technical reviewer on ECNs.
  • Prepare bill of materials in Windchill and release into SAP by creating Engineering Change Notices.
  • Develop and track product costs by utilizing product knowledge and sourcing quotes.
  • Participate in NPD project schedule development and keep track of mechanical tasks and milestones utilizing Microsoft Project.
  • Mentor interns and junior engineers on engineering best practices, skills and technologies.
  • Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
  • Protect Chamberlain Group's reputation by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • An advanced degree in a directly applicable area of study may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience.
  • 5+ years of job-related experience as defined in the Essential Duties and Responsibilities.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 10% of time; international travel required.
  • ANSYS FEA or KISSsoft software experience.
  • Drive-train design knowledge, (motor, gearbox, brake, clutch design).
  • SAP ERP software experience.
  • PTC Quality Solution XFMEA tool experience.
