SUMMARY This colleague independently performs a variety of assignments involving the application of standard mechanical design engineering techniques for a medium project or significant segments of a larger project. The incumbent must be capable of exercising independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to make minor design adaptations and modifications. Provides leadership for 2 to 3 Design Engineer / Designer I & II Colleagues in terms of both Technical Career Development as well as Project Specific direction and oversight.

Requirements

  • This position normally requires a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program and typically 7+ years of related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience/advanced degree in engineering) related to mechanical engineering systems in the Built Environment.
  • This includes considerable experience in utilizing various computer software packages and automated mechanical engineering and design equipment.
  • Interested candidates must be located in the Indianapolis area OR be willing to to travel to Indianapolis on a weekly basis.

Responsibilities

  • Mentors two or more Design Engineers / Designer I & II colleagues on their professional growth, providing guidance on technical development and project responsibilities.
  • Provides design engineering services following with Corporate Vision, Mission, and Core Values as well as Corporate ISO Systems View(s), and related professional standards, client requirements, and corporate objectives.
  • Collaborates with more experienced Engineering Colleagues to prepare basic plan details and outlines, cost estimates, and perform calculations in support of broader engineering activities involving the design of mechanical equipment, components, or systems.
  • Collaborates with the Operations Manager, Technical Leader(s), and Project Manager(s) on project staffing requirements and Resource Allocation.
  • Lays out full plan designs, plan details and outlines, identifies quantities of materials, cost estimates, and performs calculations for a detailed segment of a project.
  • Prepares technical specifications for review and approval.
  • Evaluates vendors’ bids and drawings to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Reviews and approves mechanical design drawings for assigned segments of project.
  • Assists with development of design guides, guide specifications, and design control procedures when directed by Practice Technical Leader.
  • Prepares technical reports such as Life Cycle Cost Analysis, Facility Conditions Assessments, and other Engineering guidance for clients.
  • Performs field tests & measurements, collects field data, as necessary.
  • When requested by the Practice Director, participates in project interviews, related BD meetings, and aids and supports proposal teams or proposal managers as requested.
  • Collaborates with Field Observation Colleagues to perform field observations and tests, measurements, collect field data, and prepare field reports and related documentation.
  • Other responsibilities as needed/requested.
