About The Position

Precision Neuroscience is building a next-generation brain–computer interface (BCI) to heal and empower millions of people living with neurological conditions. Our first product, Layer 7, is designed to help people with severe paralysis operate digital devices using only their thoughts—opening up new possibilities for daily life. Our team brings together experts in neurosurgery, AI and machine learning, microfabrication, electrical engineering, clinical science, and more. We combine deep technical rigor with a people-first mindset to turn breakthrough research into real-world medical solutions. As a Precision employee, you’ll join one of the fastest-moving and best-capitalized companies in the emerging field of brain–computer interfaces. Since our founding in 2021, we have raised more than $180 million, advanced our technology through validation, and initiated human trials with leading hospitals across the country. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering team to lead the design and development of intraoperative neuromonitoring devices and navigated surgical instruments. This position will best suit an engineer who is experienced with mechanical design of Class II medical devices, who thrives in regulated environments, enjoys hands-on product development, and can take ownership from concept through commercialization. This is an extraordinary opportunity to join our core team to help shape the future of our company. Your work will see commercialization quickly so that we improve the lives of patients who live with neurological disorders in a matter of months and years, not decades. This position will be based in our Manhattan office. We are unable to consider remote workers or individuals who are not currently based in the US and legally authorized to work in the US.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering (ME), Biomedical Engineering (BME) or similar.
  • 6+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering roles, preferably in the medical device industry (Class II or higher preferred)
  • Proven experience designing plastic enclosures for electronic systems (injection molding, ingress protection and sealing, EMI/EMC considerations)
  • Familiarity with EMI shielding strategies, grounding, and integration with sensitive electronics
  • Experience developing precision mechanical systems or probes, catheters, or handheld medical instruments
  • Hands-on experience with hardware integrated systems involving sensors, imaging systems and communications
  • Experience working to design controls, risk management, and regulated product development
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; able to collaborate with neuroscientists, neurosurgeons, and electrical, software, and quality engineers
  • Expert in CAD (we use SolidWorks) and finite element analysis FEA
  • Track record of working towards accelerated timelines

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electromagnetically navigated or sensor-integrated medical devices would be preferred
  • Experience with overmolding, insert molding, or multi-material assemblies

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design and development of Class II medical devices, including intraoperative neuromonitoring devices and navigated handheld surgical instruments
  • Execute hands-on design, testing, and process development for neuronavigated instruments for surgical deployment of our micro electrode array onto the cortical surface
  • Design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA) of injection-molded plastic components, precision assemblies, and electromechanical systems
  • Integrate our surgical hardware with existing commercial navigation systems and patient planning interfaces (eg StealthStation) such that it maximizes endpoint accuracy, reliability, and safety
  • Complete hands-on assembly, integration and testing tasks while ensuring rigorous quality control is being enforced.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, firmware, quality, regulatory, and clinical teams
  • Work closely with partners, external vendors, and contract manufacturers on tooling, molding, and assembly processes
  • Develop and manage detailed CAD models, drawings, and design documentation in accordance with design control requirements
