As such, we in the Advanced Product Solutions department provide the remote sensing systems, for time critical intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations. Our ISR Information and Intelligence Engineering group develops algorithms and software for processing, optimizing, and creating intelligence products from these sensors. The mechanical engineering group is seeking an established Mechanical Engineer for an On-Site position in our Westford, MA location. We are looking for self-starting candidates to perform mechanical design and documentation of electro-mechanical assemblies, coordinate with and visit suppliers, and support our manufacturing facility in Westford, MA. What You Will Do: The candidate is expected to follow established procedures and instructions while working closely with lead engineers to ensure the overall design and production goals are met. The engineer is expected to have proficient experience with PTC Creo Parametric software. The candidate is also expected to have a working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and their application for design documentation and fabrication. The candidate will work within a multi-disciplined team of engineers with responsibilities ranging from structural design, optic housing design, electronics equipment packaging, circuit card assemblies, interconnects, and thermal management for our sensor systems. The position will require frequent interaction with Program Management (PM), Supply Chain, Manufacturing Personnel and other external personnel. Program related travel to external suppliers and other Raytheon facilities typically does not exceed 10%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Equivalent Engineering from an ABET accredited university and a minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.
  • Proficient with PTC Creo Parametric (preferred) or other mechanical CAD design tools.
  • Experience using PTC Windchill PLM system.
  • Experience with utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the design of electromechanical assemblies and the interrelationship of the components therein related to optical system design. Including kinematic mounting, athermalization, optic potting, etc.
  • Knowledge of aerostructure, fastener design, materials and fabrication methods.
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts, engineering, scientific methods and how to apply them to development characterize behavior of products.
  • Experience executing modal, structural vibration and other analyses using NASTRAN/PATRAN or ANSYS.
  • Knowledgeable in analyzing and developing hardware designs to meet specified thermal environments to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Experience executing thermal analysis on electronics enclosures, circuit card assemblies, or airborne stored equipment.
  • Experience creating high tolerance mechanical part and assembly drawings.
  • Production support including the use of basic measurement tools.
  • Ability to draft communications, create and deliver presentations.
  • Experience in the support of design and integration of mechanical products and assemblies.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication skills and able to work independently and as a team member.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical CAD design and electronic design.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance
