The Hardware Engineering, Shipboard Effectors Department is seeking Mechanical Engineers for our Tucson AZ site supporting full program life cycle, early development, production support, and legacy sustainment activities across the Standard Missile family of programs. This Mechanical Engineering position performs in alignment to expectations in the design, development, and production support areas associated with mechanical designs, validation principals, qualification processes, procurement, and production processes across a design life cycle. Development work may include requirements understanding, concept development, DFMAs, PFMAs, margin analysis, technical data package (TDP) development, application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principals, engineering test principals, preparation of technical analysis reports, and presenting in design reviews. This position is onsite in Tucson, Arizona.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.
  • Five years of work experience in mechanical design and design documentation.
  • Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Leadership experience with small teams (4-6 people).
  • Supplier interaction and supplier management experience.
  • Ability to work in teams or independently, flexible, demonstrates initiative.
  • Experience in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principals, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5.
  • Experience with CREO (Pro/E) or similar 3D solid modeling software.
  • Experience with PTC Windchill Product Data Management or equivalent configuration/data management software.
  • Ability to travel to government and supplier facilities in support of program activities (10% travel possible).
  • Active DoD issued security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Technical ownership and execution of tasks, and may be viewed as a prime technical contact in providing solutions to a wide range of complex technical problems related to the design, manufacture, integration, and production sustainment of various mechanical sub-systems both in the engineering lab and the factory floor both at Raytheon Technologies and at suppliers.
  • Communicate with cross-disciplined, engineering team members and suppliers to analyze, model, and document the design technical data package (TDP) and its capabilities and compliance with requirements.
  • Serves in mentor role to junior engineers, providing technical guidance to others within mechanical discipline.
  • Work autonomously with limited supervision, acting as the responsible engineer for major hardware subsystem.
  • Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
  • Collaborate with Raytheon factories and suppliers with new product integration and manufacturing process improvements.
  • Perform and review tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function are as intended by design for the use-application.
  • Improve new and existing designs using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Producibility principles.
  • Support production of various mechanical sub-systems at internal factories and suppliers.
  • Support first hardware builds and first article inspections.
  • Review manufacturing process instructions and support material review board dispositions.
  • Perform root cause investigations on hardware of production related issues.
