About The Position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer leads mechanical design for automation and material-handling projects, integrating OEM conveyor systems, inspection and labeling subsystems, and custom mechanical solutions into complete, high-performance systems. This role develops mechanical architecture from concept through final drawing release, works closely with cross-functional engineering teams, and contributes to system performance, layout optimization, and innovative design approaches. The ideal candidate is a strong mechanical designer and an active contributor who welcomes brainstorming, iteration, and concept development. This person helps create solutions that stand out in the market.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Expert-level CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Onshape) modeling and mechanical system design capability.
  • Strong understanding of process flow and automation equipment.
  • Basic understanding of how mechanical systems interface with automation controls, including sensor placement, camera mounting, field of view considerations, encoder usage, and motor-driven actuation.
  • Ability to evaluate system throughput, material flow, and performance and contribute ideas that improve overall efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with controls, software, and vision engineers to develop integrated and innovative system concepts.
  • Experience leading mechanical projects and supporting commissioning/startups.
  • Experience with release management with PDM/PLM tools (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Windchill, Arena)
  • Competence with engineering analysis tools (FEA, mechanism simulation, etc.).
  • Proven advanced troubleshooting and system optimization capability.
  • Ability to develop mechanical standards, best practices, and documentation.
  • Leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design and integration of material-handling and automation subsystems.
  • Develop mechanical layouts, frames, guarding, mechanisms, and modular equipment interfaces
  • Design transitions between conveyors and other equipment and produce fabrication-ready drawings for these solutions.
  • Integrate subsystems from multiple vendors and ensure mechanical interfaces are correct and support cohesive system performance.
  • Translate system requirements into clear mechanical specifications for internal teams and external partners.
  • Understand throughput requirements and contribute mechanical solutions that improve flow and reduce bottlenecks.
  • Participate in concept development, brainstorming, early-stage modeling, layout iteration, and process refinement prior to final design.
  • Evaluate mechanical concepts and contribute improvements that make systems faster, smaller, stronger, more reliable, and easier to build.
  • Create fabrication-ready prints with correct tolerances, materials, and manufacturing notes.
  • Coordinate with fabrication partners to clarify design intent and support manufacturability.
  • Lead design and implementation of large-scale mechanical systems and automated equipment.
  • Architect mechanical layouts, frames, guarding, mechanisms, and modular platforms.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting on complex or intermittent mechanical failures.
  • Develop mechanical design standards, best practices, and documentation requirements.
  • Train, mentor, and support engineers and technical staff.
  • Work with vendors, review proposals, and approve technical deliverables.
  • Ensure system reliability, manufacturability, and compliance with technical specification guidelines.

Benefits

  • U.S.-based employees have access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company contribution, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, and wellbeing benefits, among others.
  • U.S.-based employees also receive, per calendar year, up to 6 scheduled paid holidays.
  • Additionally, eligible hourly/non-exempt and exempt employees accrue up to 112 hours of PTO based on years of service and may annually take up to 8 hours of paid volunteer time.
  • Additional paid sick leave is also provided if required by state or local law.
